about

Before there was borrowed solace, there was the Writer’s Guild – a club that sprouted from a group of students’ love for writing and literature. As the Writer’s Guild went on, the leadership shifted and the members rotated in and out, but the foundation the club was built upon remained the same: a love for the written word.

Soon those students moved on to being students of life in the real word. Graduations came and went, some moved across the country, full time jobs bogged down each day, and life became much more than it was before. Still, one thing remained: a love for the written word.

Out of this love, borrowed solace was born. Made up of members of the Writer’s Guild and maintained despite the distance, new jobs, and bits of life that got in the way. Soon our inbox was overflowing, the website was receiving more and more hits, and so many talented writers submitted that there wasn’t near enough room in the meager pages of our journal to feature them all. borrowed solace was becoming–going through growth spurts and the growing pains that came along with change.

So thanks for stopping by and being a part of our story. We are excited to be on this process of becoming. This community welcomes anyone and everyone who embodies a love for the written word in their life. That is the ground on which we stand.

I know nothing in the world that has as much power as a word. Sometimes I write one, and I look at it until it begins to shine.

-Emily Dickinson
